In 2010, a handful of students and a couple private voice teachers got together in mid-August to prepare their TMEA All-State music together right before the school year began. These humble beginnings were born of the desire for some intensive note learning that could supplement or replace the expensive and the fun-but-often-unfocused university TMEA camps. The small group of teachers and students found that their size was their strength and that this no-nonsense, “Last Chance” camp was in a unique position to provide both the joy and ease of group learning, as well as the the focus and personalization of private lessons.
Moving from a living room to the All-Saints Episcopal Day School, and now to Concordia University, LCCC has grown in its reach and reputation, but remains true to its intimate beginnings. Our camps remain a happy balance of group learning and personal attention. Our teachers have been past TMEA All-Staters, and are current TMEA judges, working soloists, vocal coaches, and choir directors. We bring these varied perspectives so our teaching can be most useful and compassionately rigorous - we want all of our campers to leave with the groundwork laid, so each student may flourish into their own artistry as the audition process unfolds. And though we know this music is being honed for competition, our learning of it is cooperative. We believe there is great power when we all have a shared goal and a clear purpose, and that the most intense hard work can become a joy when undertaken together.
